Axel Vervoordt has used his own hands to form and fire a very special ceramic statement. As he explains: “My goal in creating these plates for ZARA was to make fifty objects that are personal and unique. Each plate is an individual creation and can never be made the same way again. Each plate is square, and the shape of a square is the first manifestation of a spiritual idea on earth. The circular shape represents the cosmos. The circle (belonging to cosmos) and the square (belonging to the earth) come together with the earth’s clay and the human hand. The glaze comes from the ashes we source locally, from the wood and park surrounding our home in Belgium.”
