In a year when we weren’t looking for any new relationships, this was the encounter that changed everything. Visiting Jesús’ family and farm in Acevedo,Huila, reignited our love for coffee in the mostunexpected and energizing way. Jesús is a young producer with big ideas, deep passion, and a profound sense of responsibility to the land. That alone would be enough to spark our interest—but the coffee sealed it. This natural processed lot blew us away with its intensity and complexity. The cup is vibrant and layered, with bold notes of tannic red wine, tropical fruit like passion fruit and mandarin, and the classic natural hallmark of ripe blueberry. His farm is planted mostly with newer varietals, including Pink Bourbon and Caturrón, and he focuses almost exclusively on natural processing—both for the expressive flavor and the reduced water usage. These are clean, classic raised-bed naturals, which feel refreshingly straightforward amid today’s trend toward ever more complex fermentations. Proceeds from the last harvest helped fund a full rebuild of their family home, and we had the honor of sharing a pour-over of one of Jesús’ experimental lots with him—in his brand-new kitchen.
